Credits & Pricing

Rolltop uses one credit system for every cloud provider. Instead of managing a separate bill for Claude, GPT, Gemini, Grok, and the media and research services, you hold a single credit balance and Rolltop handles the rest.

How credits work

  • One balance covers every cloud provider — chat, images, video, audio, research, and embeddings all draw from the same pool.
  • Your real-time balance shows in the Rolltop Info & Feedback panel, with low-balance warnings.
  • Credits are consumed FIFO — the credits closest to expiring are used first.
  • Subscription and top-up credits roll over until they expire.

You're charged for what the provider actually reports

Every call is priced on Rolltop's servers from the provider's own response — not estimated by the app. That's why the Usage Report and your balance can't drift apart.

Before an expensive generation (a video, say) Rolltop places a hold for the estimated cost and settles it against actual usage afterwards. The practical benefit: if you're short, you get a clear "not enough credits" message up front, instead of a failure halfway through.

Long conversations don't re-bill their whole history

Normally every turn of a long conversation pays again for everything already said. Rolltop caches the stable part of a conversation, so continuing a long thread costs a small fraction for context it has already sent. There's nothing to configure — it applies to every model that supports caching.

What uses credits

Cloud activity uses credits:

  • Chat with cloud models (Claude / GPT / Gemini / Grok)
  • Image and video generation
  • Audio generation (text-to-speech) and transcription
  • Web research (Perplexity)
  • Semantic embeddings (for search and corpus) when using a cloud embedding model

What's always free

  • Ollama — local AI models, including local embeddings.
  • Local tools — calendar and tasks, SQLite databases, document generation, file operations, email tools, scripting, and flashcards all run on your machine.

Trial and plans

  • Free trial — 25,000 credits, which you start yourself after confirming your email. No card required. Trial credits expire after one year.
  • Subscriptions — monthly or annual plans grant a monthly credit allowance, with a bonus on annual billing. Higher tiers include more credits.
  • Top-ups — one-time credit purchases that never expire.

You can subscribe or top up from within the app, or on the website. See the Pricing page for current plan amounts.

Trials are released in daily batches, so a free trial may be queued at busy times. Subscribing is never queued. See Quick Start.

Track your spending

The Usage Report breaks down exactly where your credits go — by provider, service type, project, and app surface — with drill-down to the conversations that used the most.
